Making Live Transfers and Conference Calls using your Twilio Numbers

In this tutorial, you will learn how to perform live transfers using your Twilio numbers on Eazylio, whether you’re making calls through your web browser or via your mobile phone. Live transfers allow you to connect multiple participants in a call.

Prerequisites

  • An active Twilio account (non-trial).
  • Active Twilio phone numbers.
  • Ensure the geography permissions for calls are enabled in your Twilio account. See here: Geo Permissions for Calls.
  • Access to the Eazylio platform (console.eazylio.com) with proper login credentials.
  • Your Twilio number must be Linked and Active with Eazylio. (For instructions on linking and activating your Twilio number, see: Linking Twilio Number)
  • Permissions to use the microphone in your browser (if making the conference through your Browser).
  • Ensure you have an active internet connection for browser calls or a working mobile network for mobile calls.

Step-by-Step Instructions

You can make a live transfer either using a Browser call or a Mobile call.

  • Note: To see how to make calls using Eazylio in detail, see Making Calls.
  • Note: To see how to manage a Browser Call and the Conference in detail, see Manage Browser Calls.

(A) Using a Browser Call

  1. Initiate the Call via Browser:
    • Navigate to the Dialer page: https://console.eazylio.com/dialer.
    • Set the Call Via option to Browser.
    • Check the Record Call box if you want to record the call.
    • Dial the First Person’s number to connect.
  2. Record the Call:
    • If you forget to check the Record Call option before dialing, you can still start the recording after the First Person answers the call.
    • Note: If you switch to a conference call without recording initially, you will not be able to start the recording later due to Twilio’s limitations.
  3. Switch to Conference:
    • Once the call begins, click on SWITCH TO YOUR CONFERENCE ROOM AND ADD PARTICIPANTS.
    • The First Person will be placed on hold, with or without hold music, depending on your settings.
  4. Dial the Second Person:
    • Input your Twilio number and dial the Second Person’s number to connect with them.
  5. Merge the Calls:
    • After the Second Person answers, you can have a private conversation.
    • When ready, release the hold on the First Person to bring both participants into the call for a conference.
  6. Important Note:
    • If you leave the call, the conference will end for all participants. If you don’t want to participate but want to let the others continue, consider muting yourself.
  7. Review the Recording:
    • After the call ends, the recording will be available on the Call Log page: https://console.eazylio.com/calls.
    • The recording of the conference will appear under the “Conference” button next to the initial call.

(B) Using Mobile Calls

  1. Initiate the Call via Mobile:
    • Set the Call Via option to Mobile Number and check the Record Call option.
    • Dial the First Person’s number.
    • You will receive a call on your mobile from your Twilio number, which will connect you to the First Person.
  2. Dial the Second Person:
    • After speaking with the First Person, dial the Second Person’s number.
    • You will receive a second call on your mobile from your Twilio number to connect you with the Second Person.
  3. Merge the Calls:
    • Answer the second call, have a conversation with the Second Person, and when ready, merge the calls using your phone’s native functionality.
  4. Review the Recording:

Common Issues and Troubleshooting

  • Recording Didn’t Start: If you forget to record the call before switching to conference, you won’t be able to record the conference part of the call later. Make sure to start recording at the beginning.
  • Dropped Conference: If you exit the call, the entire conference will end. Stay on the line or mute yourself if you don’t want to participate but want the call to continue.
  • Can’t Merge Calls on Mobile: Ensure your mobile phone supports call merging or conference calls. This feature varies by device and network.
